“The Thumper” Ted Williams

Theodore Samuel Williams is also known as “The Kid,” “The Splendid Splinter”, “Teddy Ballgame” and “The Thumper.” He is also considered to be one of the greatest hitters that ever played the game, and for him batting and hitting was an obsession. It was said that he was very particular when it comes to these things and had a few practices in order to maximise one’s hitting potential. He used a lighter bat than as it generated more speed, he only stepped out of the batter’s box when there was shade so he could see the ball clearly, and encouraged team mates not to leave their bats out on the field as they would suck in moisture making it heavier.

He had so many thoughts on the proper way of batting that he wrote a book about it entitled “The Science of Hitting,” which many baseball players read till now. Williams was awarded the League Most Valuable Player twice, won the illusive Triple Crown also twice, and listed into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966.
