The Rules and Game Play

The game is played by two teams who take turns in batting or hitting (offence) in order to earn a point and fielding or pitching (defence) to get a turn to score. There is usually nine innings in a game, where each team takes turns playing offence and defence, constituting one inning for every pair of turns. Customarily, it is the home team that bats in the second half and visiting team batting in the first half of every inning. The objective of the game is to accumulate as many runs or points as you can in every inning. This is done by getting the players to fully cover the four bases set at the corners of the baseball field. Their attempt is only foiled when three of its players are removed from offensive action, either struck out by the pitcher or was tapped out by the opposing team having the ball at the base or on the field.

When three outs are recorded, the next half-inning begins, with the defending team now playing offence. The rules of the game is relatively simple, for offence, you just have to hit the pitched ball within the foul lines. Then the batter, after successfully hitting the ball, must run counter-clockwise to the first, second, third, and home base as fast as he can in order to get a point. For defence, you can eliminate players either by striking them out (courtesy of the pitcher), catching the ball in mid-air (courtesy of the pitcher or fielder) or tapping a base with the ball, where a runner is supposed to head to, or tagging him out with the ball.
