League Most Valuable Player

The League Most Valuable Player Award actually started as the Chalmers Award, where players were recognized for their overall contributions to their team’s success. It was only in 1931 that it was actually called by its present name and has been awarded every year since.

League Most Valuable Player Award is awarded to one player from each league, being chosen and voted by the Baseball Writers Association of America. The award is given in order to acknowledge the contribution of that outstanding player to his league and recognize his skill and ability to do whatever it takes for the best interests of his team. His unselfish dedication is rewarded by perpetuating his achievements and memory for years to come.
