In the offensive side, there are also different strategies employed in order to get a point. A basic offensive tactic is when a skilful contact hitter takes the batting plate, and the runner at first base is signalled to draw the second baseman over to second base, so that the batter can hit the ball through the gap in the infield caused by the second baseman. Another strategy is called the sacrifice bunt, where a runner vying for home base is given an opportunity to complete the run through the sacrifice of the batter, where he simply makes contact with the ball, allowing it to roll just a short distance into the infield.

The batter may also make a sacrifice fly, where he hits the ball high enough to allow the runner to reach home base before the ball is caught. These are but a few strategies that players in the offence can do to earn a point.
